illustrations for Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice”
For this project I wanted to capture Jane Austen’s talent to create a feeling of intimicy without ever describing much more than the touch of a hand.
I created the cover illustration, as well as a banner that can be used to highlight the book in book shops and online. I also created a portrait of her, one illustration featuring all of her published novels and an illustration showing Chawton Cottage, the house she lived in when she published four of her novels, used for a card deck about the greatest female writers.
Sketch and colour palette process
To fit Jane Austen’s way of playing with contrasts (e.g. Lizzy’s bubbly and witty personality against Mr. Darcy’s somber and conceited attitude), I created a palette using yellow, brown and green, against a bright purpleish blue, which is on the opposite side of the colour wheel.
