The shade
I admire the joy and passion that drag performers are able to transport to the audience through their art. I created this illustration while watching Rupaul’s drag race, which initially introduced me to the art of drag. Since discovering the show, I’ve not only been following many drag performers on social media, but felt very inspired to create illustrations in honor to them.
This illustration includes three essential parts of a drag race episode:
1. a nod to the reading challenges in form of a pair of sunglasses with the words “the shade” written in a handlettered font
2. a lipstick symbolizing the lipstick message queens leave when they get eliminated
3. a box of popcorn, because the drama really is cinema-worthy!
